Interesting topic of the day. As I was reading the Time magazine at 99 Pho waiting for my food to arrive with francis and denise, I came across an interesting article on how Obama has signed a petition on reversing a law on " travelers with AIDS are ban from coming to America unless they have forms and waivers to come in the country." Basically if you have AIDS and want to visit the states u need a form or a waiver, and if your waiver is rejected, you are not allowed in the country. How interesting isnt it ? I have never heard of it till today. the article further elaborate that Bush administration was also working on reversing this law but his term ended before any work could be done. Another interesting piece as I thought he would not actually care about this kinda things except for going to war.
In another news, WHO has issued a new guidance regarding treatments on HIV, where people with AIDS should be treated with aids drugs earlier (with CD4 count of 350 instead of 500) to have a better chance of surviving. Only problem is 5 million people is still in waiting to be treated and how are WHO/Doctors/countries going to accommodate 3-5 million (ball park figure) people who qualified for the treatment, as the supply for the drugs are low. Example is AIDS programs in Africa is still struggling with the demand of the drugs as they kept turning the patients away.
My guess is mass-production of the drugs, but how easy can that be? it can be easy when u think of how much money the drug companies make each year. Corporate social responsibility anyone?
